This week...
- Had interviews this week. That was all good and more than anything just talking and seeing how everything is going. It is always great though because Sister Caffaro always brings home made brownies and these ones had fudge on the top with chocolate chips! THEY WERE DELICIOUS!!!! Best part of my week ;) man I miss baked goods. - Also had a world wide training this week for missionaries. We went to a stake center and watched the broadcast live from Utah. It was all in Spanish so that required a lot of focus and towards the end I just had a headache and felt like I just sat through finals. It was rough to go out and work after that, but at least I did understand just about all of it. - This week I also did something crazy and it is all dads fault. Since dad always taught me to try everything at least once, how could I say no? This week for lunch I was asked if I wanted to try chicken heart. All I could think was dads words ringing in my head, "You have to try it at least once and if you do not like it, at least you know, and you do not have to eat it again." So with that going through my head I hesitantly said yes and they placed the heart of the chicken on my plate. Just from looks it did not look horrible, but it sure did not look good. It was about the size of 1.5 chicken nuggets. As I built up the courage and drank my courage juice (thanks Luke) I courageously bit in and held back the puking reaction that followed. It was gross! More than anything it tasted like cow liver but 2X. I had to hold back spitting it out. I quickly realized I did not drink enough courage juice so I drank a bit more before eating the rest of the heart. The heart had two parts. It had some meat in the middle and the other part was the aorta/valves/whatever other thing the heart is made of. The meat part is what tasted like liver and the aorta was kinda like chewy pasta (the kind that is hollow in the middle). The meat part was the nasty part and the aorta part was not the worst. All in all thanks dad, I can now say I have eaten the heart of the chicken, but have no plans to do it again. - It has also turned into sweater weather here as it has dropped in temp, has been windy, and I guess a part of it (as dad would put it again) I have gotten weak. Lastly, spiritual thought: This weeks topic is prayer - 3 Nephi 18:18-22. Never forget the importance of prayer and do not ever forget to prayer. Prayer is one of the most important things. do not just say a personal prayer but pray in the families as well. It is so important and the family will be strengthened SO much! I also offer the challenge to pray always! When you first wake up and before you go to bed. Before each meal too, even if you are at school, work, or a restaurant. Do not just say a quick little prayer in your heart but say it with all your heart. Fold your arms, bow your head, and close your eyes. be a light to the world and set the example. Never fully know how to format the letters or what order to write things and bullet points are just easier...
- This last week I learned how to do a Rubik's cube, that is pretty neat. - I bought some ugly ties for Brother Brandt and I am looking forward to photos of him wearing them in church. - Did some service for a recent convert and painted her house. All the paint here is water based and does not work very well but it is still fun to go and paint. - Elder Fisher has a Frisbee and it felt SO good to play with it last week for a little. Unfortunately that did not last very long as the Latinos started complaining and just wanted to play soccer. That's all we play here because that is all the Latinos know how to play.... it gets kinda boring. - We were walking down the street in the market and on the corner were standing two policemen and they called us over. At first I was curious as to what they wanted but the conversation very quickly turned into a very spiritual conversation. We talked with them on the corner for about 10 minutes and they eventually gave us their address to pass by their house later. It is just too bad they live in a different zone. - This last week I also ate some more disgusting food. We ate egg plant and cow liver. I think it was my first time eating egg plant and I did not like it. Also, cow liver is nasty! It was cooked like a beef patty and it was hard to force it down. It is not something people should eat. - I was also given "Dientes de Perro" which is a chilly and is supposed to be one of the hottest peppers. It is just a small red pepper and everyone told me I was going to die. So of course I was excited to eat it! I was quickly disappointed when it did not kill me. Yes it was a hot pepper, but it was bearable. No tears, no red face, it did not burn me twice, it was a real disappointment. Nothing like the hot sauce from Levenworth or the level 7 hot wing from "the WingDome". - Perhaps the greatest thing this week was a BAPTISM!!! We baptized our big pregnant lady. It is always so awesome to have a baptism! All in all it was a great week. Here is a little spiritual thought: Everyone has rough times in there life. They feel discouraged and overwhelmed but that is normal and it is what we do in those times that define us! Keep going and turn to the Lord. Even Moses felt discouraged and asked God to die (Numbers 11:14-15), and Moses was awesome! -- Having the best day of his life, Elder Gruber Another Week Do not know if I mentioned this last week but church is now at 10 so that is awesome and gives us more time in the morning to bring people to church without having to wake up early. Had divisions back to back this week. One on Thursday and then again Friday. Thursday I was with Elder Fisher in Cerro Grande and Friday in La Justo with Elder Alberto. Elder fisher and I threw a "rave" for my birthday party and just ate a bunch of snacks and listened to music. There is also a dance video we made.... my birthday was awesome and for lunch a recent convert invited us over and threw me a birthday party with decorations and all. We had a large pizza and a strawberry pie. Then we went over to another members house and we had Medianoche cake which is like a chocolate and vanilla flan cake, it was SO good!. Over all it was an awesome day! Had a ward mission activity and watched 17 Miracles and there is no Spanish translation so it was in English with Spanish subtitles, not my idea but I did not have a problem with it. Should have a baptism this week with a really big lady... she is pregnant and her due date is here in February. If we are not careful it might turn into two baptisms ;) That is about it for the week. Things are going good and life is great! -- Having the best day of his life, Elder Gruber Not much new.... just a normal week. Just a few things that happened but I am doing awesome and having the best day of my life! -There was an earthquake! That is right! How awesome is that. We got back into our house at 9 and around 9:15 the building started to shake and move and it was AWESOME!!!! It was just a small one but reminded me of the 2 earthquakes in California that we felt. Again, AWESOME! Now I am just waiting for the volcano to explode, I keep praying but still nothing. Also in my next area maybe I will get robbed so that could be cool too. I will just have to be patient and wait. - Last P-Day I decided I was hungry so I ate a whole large Little Ceasers pizza by myself followed by ice cream! It was legend... wait for it... - New years was good. There were a TON of fireworks. from the roof of our house we could see all of Guatemala and the country went crazy! The greatest firework show I have seen. There were fireworks quite literally exploding right in front of us on the roof. Again no laws so everything goes. I was really tired the next day but it was worth it! - Had a day of miracles which was so cool! just the whole day we saw a lot of little miracles and the spirit was with us so strong it was incredible! I can not write all that happened nor the feelings I had. All I can say DARY! LEGENDARY!!!!! It was LEGENDARY! Thats about it, doing great and should have some more baptisms here this month. -- Having the best day of his life, Elder Gruber Morning after New Years.
